An Ancient Myth and Legend, the term "Doppelganger" came into the Western language in the 15th Century (Germany). The theory of this "Spirit", is it is the exact copy of a "living soul". Most often, evil - it's main goal was to "take over the life" of it's "spiritual Cousin". The Doppelganger is said to be the "evil" or "bad" that all people harbor. Certain traumatic incidents (normally of a spiritual nature), causes a separation of one's soul. This "negative" image of oneself us just as tangible as the "positive". The Doppelganger traditionally cannot inhabit or occupy the same space that his "positive" self. Doing such would cause the direction result of supposedly "rapid re-integration" and the death of both "forms". Only with the physical death of the "Positive" can the "Negative" achieve full corporeal "existence". Some Doppelganger Legends put a more "pleasant" slant on their purpose. Often seen as a non-corporeal Spirit wishing to protect a "Charge", these versions assume the image of those they protect.
