In Bulgarian Folklore (perhaps as old at the 15th Century AD) – a ‘’Djadadjii’’ was a ‘’professional’’ Vampire Hunter and Killer. Villages who though that they were plagued with Vampirism, would often hire such Men (and in some cases, Women). Identified as a ‘’Kroijac’’ (Vampire), these ‘’Hunters’’ were often learned people, who combined Folk Magic remedies with ‘’modern’’ Science and even Christianity, as a means of identifying and ridding a Region of Vampires. The most powerful weapons Djadadjii ised, was some form of Holy Relic. If worn of kept in the center of a ‘’cursed’’ Village, the ‘’power’’ of The Icon Relic, would ‘’force out’’ a Vampire, which would then be killed with a variety of methods (such as the stake thru the heart or beheading). Another ‘’tried and true’’ method of Kroijac Hunting, was to cause the Vampire so much ‘’pain’’ (from exposure to Holy Relics), that The Being would be forced to materialize into smoke. Once accomplished, the Djadadjii would place Their ‘’trap’’. A glass bottle with a small amount of blood was placed in the center of Town. The Vampire (still in a vapor state), would seek out the bottle for nourishment. Once inside the bottle, it would be sealed and thrown into fire. This would kill The Vampire’s Soul and rid The Village of the ‘’Evil’’. Djadadjii Hunters would still exist into the late 19th Century AD, with most of the later ‘’beliefs’’ disowned by The Orthodox Church.
