Perhaps one of the most gruesome ‘’ways’’ to be executed (tortured) – ‘’Disembowelment’’ is really Centuries old. Found recorded in Ancient Greece and Rome, the practice would become VERY popular during The European Middle Ages, even LASTING well into The 20th Century. In performance, a Victim (properly secured, of course), has a slit made in Their abdomen. The ‘’Practitioner’’ of this Torment would then extract (slowly), the intestines of The Victim. This could be by Device (such as a ‘’Spit Draw’’) or by Tong (Clamp) Device. IF done ‘’properly’’, a Victim would be very much aware of His or Her plight – able to ‘’watch’’ the grisly practice as it ‘’unfolds’’. Often, The Victim was ‘’treated’’ to watching as Their ‘’entrails’’ were burnt in a fire. The often Public enactment was also meant to warn others to not commit similar offences. Such punishment was warranted by High Treason or Heresy (especially). Disembowelment (in a ritualistic form), was the preferred method of suicide for Feudal Japanese Samurai Warriors. In this act of ‘’ultimate self-control’’ The Warrior (who opted for this death as ‘’honorable’’) – would select a ‘’Second’’ (Assistant), to stand by with a sword (which was used to decapitate the performer of disembowelment – aka ‘’Seppeku’’). The Warrior would cut into His own abdomen, deep enough to expose His bowels (even spilling out onto the ground), within seconds of making such a fatal cut, The Warrior’s ‘’Second’’, would be allowed to ‘’dispatch’’ His Friend. In other variations, Disembowelment was used (with great effect) – as a ‘’psychological weapon’’ during The 1960s War in Southeast Asia (Vietnam). Viet Cong (Militia) often used the ‘’tactic’’ as a warning to those who would ‘’help’’ American and Allied Forces against Them.
