A GREAT British Sci-Fi Horror Novel from 1951 (and later a 1963 Color Film), Day of The Triffids is a must see. Although in the Novel, The Triffids are a result of The US and Soviet Russia's attempts at Bio-weapons gone wrong - the film has our Beasts the result of a spore that traveled to Earth during a Meteorite shower. The resulting lightshow causes a form of temporary (but long lasting) blindness to all humans that watched it in the skies. With World Governments at a standstill, survivors try and cope. The Spores begin to grow into 10-foot tall, WALKING man-eating Plants! They decide to eat humans and take over the Planet. Without putting up much resistance (we are blind, remember ), The Triffids paralyze their victims by spitting an unknown fluid (which we can't see coming!) As for the movie version , we find out sea water (and fire) will kill The Triffids (after lowering our numbers on Earth, this takes a while). It was so in the Novel, however MOST of Mankind was eradicated by The Triffids, save a small group of survivors. Mankind stayed blind (save those lucky enough to NOT have been viewing The Arrival . Learning about fire and water, these survivors set about the task of eliminating the now dominate lifeform on Earth The Triffids!
