A fairly creepy little movie that got little Press, 2019s "Daniel Isn't Real" is psychological Horror at it's best. Starring Elijah Woods, it poses the question of mental health over demonic possession. Dealing with a young boy named Luke - who witnesses a mass shooting ( and us suitably traumatized), He meets another boy present named Daniel. Cool and unphased, the two become fast friends. Unfortunately, no adults can "see" Daniel. Initially, Luke's Mother is unalarmed by Her Son's "imaginary friend". Luke seems to grow more confident as a result. A bad divorce and even worse diagnosis of mental issues with Mom, and Luke grows up moderately adjusted. So too "grows" Daniel. It us only when Daniel convinces Luke to almost poisoning His Mother, that Mom realizes "Daniel" is dangerous (or perhaps Luke?) In a strange self exorcism ceremony, Mom convinces Luke to "banish" Daniel to Her old childhood dollhouse. It works. Daniel is gone. But Luke, now in College- fears He too will fall prey to His Mothers insanity. After failed attempts with a Psychiatrist to solve His problem, Luke "releases" Daniel from His "prison". Slowly, Daniel begins to "take over" Luke's body. After a rape attempt and other acts of depravity, Luke's Mom gets The Psychiatrist to intervene. "Daniel" kills him. When Daniel was summoned from the dollhouse, He put Luke's soul inside, for a pleading Mom is able to give Luke the ability to escape at partially take back His body. The fight for control is futile it seems. In order to stop Daniel for good, Luke kills himself by jumping to His death from a building. In an otherworldly realm Daniel's true form - that of a Demon, is revealed. ''He'' Is looking for another "Friend".
