Cursed Pompeii

In 79 AD The Coastal Town of Pompeii (Italy) was completely destroyed by the massive eruption of neighboring volcano Mount Vesuvius. The resulting natural calamity outright killed many thousands, with many more dying shorting thereafter. Long buried in ''exact time'' by the hardened volcanic lava, when ''rediscovered'' in the 18th Century, The Town would be uncovered to reveal amazing and fantastic archaeological finds. Pompeii is visited by thousand of World Tourists each year. Of course, it may still take many decades to uncover EVERTHING, but in this lays a stern warning....and perhaps even a Curse.

While most of use would not consider taking away anything historically important when we visited such a sight, some amateur Historians do. They find everything from ancient glass beads, rings etc. (all having once belonged to some Resident of Pompeii) - to outright damaging The Site and taking MUCH larger stuff. But since this sad ''custom'' started (perhaps in the late 1940s) - reports of even odder things have happened. It is estimated EVERY year, Curators to the local Museum receive by Mail - envelope or package each containing some stolen piece of antiquity from the buried City. Curther accompanying Letters attest to having had NOTHING but ''misfortune'' and ''grief'' since taking away whatever item they did. In some cases, even death.

The Curator Staff, not to be untold latched hold of ''The Curse'' and actively warn via signage of such should One decide to take or damage the once pround Roman City - but now massive graveyard. Of Course, all of this could be a Tourist ''trick'' to both attrack more as well as stop looting....Perhaps?
