Located on The ''Emerald Isle'' - in County Youghal (Ireland), stands (barely) Templemichael Castle. It's visage will conjure either romance (with the rising or setting Sun) - or dread with The Moon and requisite local fog. The origins of The Castle are said to date to the 12th Century AD. Dedicated to St. Michael, The Archangel - it's Temple moniker is said to be related to the legendary Knights Templar. The original Owners - The Fitzgerald's gave the grounds to The Order (as was done throughout Christiandom). The Order apparently (as Legend states), built Templemichael to defend the locale from any invasion. Throughout the Centuries, Templemichael would have Chapel and Family Graveyard added. It is The Graveyard which is most of interest.
Of all The Fitzgeralds (and later Smythe) Families - an inordinate number of them seem to ''die'' of the 13th Day of ANY given month. This fact is readily proven by the many surviving Headstones. Why? It is very unclear (as is MOST of Templemichael's shrouded history). One theory, is that several Fitzgerald's may have served as Judges when The Templar Order was declared outlaw by The Church....on October 13th, 1066! There is a long list on ''reasons''. The Templemichael Castle served as home for several Families until The English Civil War of the mid-17th Century. Cromwellian Forces ''slighted'' the fortification (as was common practice). It was never rebuilt, but a quaint Chapel was later built around the 1820s. Services were held up to 1969. The Chapel has since sunken into disrepair.
The Chapel and Graveyard have another attached legend. Ghostly (and often menacing) Monks are often seen (but none have been photographed. Feeling of dread and ill will are very common. Other Ghostly ''forms'' - both Maile and Female have also been sighted in The Graveyard and Chapel. It is also common to experience an occasional ''shove of force'' and cold spot in both locations. And while nothing of the splendor of The Chapel remains, in 1980 an unusual find came to light......after a rather creepy paranormal encounter. Amateur Investigators ''heard'' the ghostly sound (softly) of a Church Organ playing....where none was present. After a search, a small hidden chest off The Altar revealed a minature Organ. Although quite old, it was still playable. But it could not have been what The Investigators heard.....Could It?
