What could have been a passable Horror idea, fell thru in 1965s Independent Features ‘’Creature of The Walking Dead’’. Even the Title was a miss I(kind of). Originally a 1961 Mexican Horror Film, the print was purchased by an American Independent Film Studio and ‘’re-edited’’ with a few scenes and ‘’English Language’’. An while it was poorly acted, with ‘’just okay’’ special effects – The Film does have merit for die hard ‘’B’’-Movie Genre Fans. Black and White, it may have been better in Color with just a little more thought put into it. The Plot centers around a ‘’brilliant Mad, Frankenstein-like Doctor’’ who appears to never age. In truth, Dr. Malthus (His name), has found a means to preserve life (immortality), via a special serum mixed with fresh blood (from living victims – all Female). Eventually found out, Malthus is tried and convicted for His Crimes. He is summarily hung.
Flash forward to ‘’Today’’ (or 1965 at any rate). Malthus descendant (a Doctor as well), inherits His 2x Great Grandfather’s Estate Inspecting His ‘’Prize’’, The Young Mathus finds the Old Docs Laboratory and Notes. Convinced He can duplicate the experiment, He renovates the Old Lab with Modern equipment. Digging Grandpa (who, although a 150 year old corpse, looks ‘’pretty good’’), Young Malthus kills His hired Maid and uses Her blood to re-animate Old Malthus. Instantly regretting His folly, Old Mathus (now young), explains that He must undergo the treatment every other day to maintain His Youth. When the younger refuses, He is imprisoned while Old Malthus is free to kill again. Escaping in the ‘’final reel’’, a fist fight ensues with a Lab on fire – burning Old Malthus to death (for good). As stated, the final script needed polishing but ‘’Creature of The Walking Dead’’ is not unwatchable.
