First seen around The Reign of England’s Edward The Confessor (9th Century). The Legend of The Cramp Ring evolved from a Tale of a Pilgrim - having returned from a Pilgrimage from The Holy City of Jerusalem. This unidentified Soul, knowing that King Edward suffered from “Epilepsy” – brought him a Finger Ring, fashioned from an “unknown, yet miraculous” Metal. If worn on one’s Finger, One would “suffer not” from any illness. The Ring (which became known as “Edward’s Ring”) was kept by The Priests of Westminster Abby and given to all future Rulers of England. After William The Conqueror, the original Ring disappeared. However, the practice remained of manufacturing a Silver Ring – which was Blessed and given with much Ceremony in much the same way as the original. After The Reign of Mary I, the practice fell out of “Official’’ favor. However, some “Edward Rings” are still made privately and worn by some for very much the same reason.
