The 1970 US Cult Classic ''Count Yorga, Vampire'', was an attempt to capitalize on the massive success if British Hammer Film Studios ''Dracula'' Series (starring Christopher Lee). An ''Americanized'' Dracula (played somewhat ''hammy'' by Actor Robert Quarry), the film is set in California (of course) with The Count even more dated by His velvetine Suits and Cape (it was The 1970s after all!). A distraught daughter turns to The Paranormal (a Seance) to try and contact the Spirit of her ''deceased'' Mother). Her Medium is a Bulgarian Mystic named Count Yorga (who is actually a vampire and turned the girls Mom into one of His Minion). Yorga plans to ''turn'' the Girl and eventually ''grow'' an Undead Army. The Girls Boyfriend learned of Yorga's true identity. After a climatic battle out of which The Girls learns Her Mother is a Vampire (who is staked for Her troubles), Yorga meets a similar traditional vampiric fate. The film became more of a staple at late night ''Horror Shows'' which were popping up in Movie Theaters on Friday and Saturday Nights. It would also be among requested Friday Night Television ''Creature Features'', for many years. A sequel ''The Return of Count Yorga'' came in 1971 with a planned 3rd installment. The sequel did not do as well as the first and as such, the third (although drafted) was never filmed. Both ''Yorga'' Films are in Color.
