A 2005 Horror/Fantasy Film which is the type that One either ‘’loves or hates’’ – ‘’Constantine’’ has developed more of a Cult Fanbase over the years that it ever had when first released. Starring Keanu Reeves in the Title role, the film did feature good special effects – but suffered from ‘’off acting’’ at times and ‘’flat characterizations’’. The ‘’concept’’ fairly good (Fantasy) – but it wasn’t enough to be considered a ‘’failure’’ at The Box Office. An attempt to revitalize ‘’Constantine’’ as an American Television Series, based more on the original Graphic Novels was attempted in 2014 – but it too fizzled by 2015. The hope of a Reeves sequel was still on-going into late 2020, by several Directors.
The Plot deals with a ‘’hard boiled’’ Paranormal Detective, Exorcist and Warlock (Witch) named John Constantine. Having been born with the ‘’gift of sight’’ – with regards to being able to ‘’see’’ Demons masquerading as Humans, He uncovers a War between Heaven and Hell. When Demons orchestrate the discovery of the long lost Medieval religious relic – The ‘’Spear of Longinus’’, as a means of helping bring The anti-Christ (Son of Satan), into The World – (aided by Rogue Angels and other mystical beings), Constantine fights a horde of Demons and makes the ultimate sacrifice to not only save The World – but he soul of the sister of a recent Client – a Police Detective!
As stated, the ‘’imagery’’ of Hell and ‘’Demonic’’ attack special effects are quite good and well worth the obvious flaws of the film. Not great, but not bad either…………
