Iron is seen as a type of Talisman, used for Centuries as a means of either repelling or promoting ''Good Luck''. The term come from the process of cold forging the metal. Iron was seen as a method of protection against purposed paranormal activities as well. The most common Cold Iron article is that of the standard Horseshoe. Seen as a ''holder of Good Luck and Fortune'', traditionally One hangs The Shoe with the opening upwards (placed on a door or wall of a home or business). In this, the ''luck'' will not ''run out''. Some Cultures however state that The Shoe in hung downwards (so as to let the luck ''pour out'' into the dwelling. Iron Gates installed around Cemeteries was another use for Cold Iron. The fencing was seen as a method of ''keeping'' Spirits ''inside'' their graves. In still another, old iron cast knives were often buried under a home (or placed inside a stone foundation), as a means of prohibiting a Witch or Warlock from entering or casting a spell on the home.
