From Elizabethan England, come the tale of The Cockatrice. These beasts had the head of a Rooster and the body of a Dragon. Like the Rooster, the creature only had 2 legs with which to get about on. Covered in feathers and scales, The Cockatrice was said to have been brought to England from Egypt. It was said one could make a Cockatrice by taking a yolkless egg and throwing it over one's house. If it did not hit the house (or break) a Cockatrice would soon hatch from the egg. The creature had the ability to kill by just looking at it's victim. A Cockatrice could be killed even simpler by allowing it to hear a real Rooster crow.
