A common belief concept in Haitian Folk Magic (Voodoo), is a form of Spiritual Possession identified as Chwal. The belief was that a Female was selected to be inhabited by a malevolent Spirit. The willing Subject would go into a trance and ''feel as if they were swimming in vast darkness''. No harmful feelings or dangers were perceived. However, once possessed by The Chwal Spirit, the person had the ability to accurately ''predict The Future''. After several hours of ''telling'', The Chwal would leave – with no ill effects felt after.
