In Ancient Chinese Mythos, as in other Cultures – various Deities were tasked with the specific role of ‘’Protecting’’ an entire City. These ‘’Guardians’’ were known as ‘’Chenghuangshen’’. These Deities took ‘’residence’’ inside a Cities Defensive Walls and Moats. With Cults traced back as long as 2,000 years ago, The Chenghuangshen had ornate Temples, into which was poured no expense. Great and lavish Rituals and Ceremonies were performed yearly, to honor Them. As long as They were ‘’satisfied’’, a City so ‘’fortified’’ would never be breached. Normally, outside the primary Temple to Them, only The Royal Family had a smaller Altar. It was usually forbidden to have a personal ‘’House Altar’’ or Icon of The Chenghuangshen.
