A facet (primarily) of Ancient African Tribal Funerary Beliefs, ‘’Ceremonial Poles’’ are used by MANY Cultures and have MANY names. In procedures followed by and large by all, a long wooden Pole is selected from ‘’sacred wood’’. These can range from several feet to a respectful 8-feet in height. These Poles are carved into ‘’Totem-like’ symbols, mostly representing The Gods of The Afterlife and of Protection. These Poles are then placed into the Earth over the grave or burial spot of a Deceased. It is believed that a ‘’spectral light glows’’ from these Poles to memorialize an Ancestor. The Ceremonial Pole is akin to the traditional Memorial Marker or Headstone used in most Western Cultures to remember The Dead.
