Perhaps another Modern ‘’Urban Legend’’ born out of the infamous German National Socialism Movement of the 1930s and 1940s, aka ‘’The Nazi’s’’, The ‘’Legend of The Blutfahne’’ deals with an even older Germanic concept, concerning ‘’Honor, Blood and Loyalty’’. As we have seen prior, The ‘’Blutfahne’’ or ‘’Blood Flag’’ (also Banner), dates to Germany’s Middles Ages. The Flag was a Crimson Red (Blood colored) Field, used by various Dynasties – as an Icon to the belief of Germanic loyalty and honor (and it’s relation to pure German Blood). It is no stretch of the imagination as to way The Political Party known as National Socialism (Nazi) would select The Blutfahne as Their ‘’symbol’’. But The Party modified The Banner, to include Their symbol of The Swastika (or ‘’The Broken Cross’’) set in a circular field of White. It was this Flag that was carried in the infamous ‘’Beer Hall Riots’’ of 1923, when The National Socialists clashed with German Federal Authorities in the streets (in an early attempt at overthrowing The Government). The Parties Political ‘’strong arms’’ were known as ‘’The Brownshirts’’ and They bore The Blutfahne before them in ‘’battle’’. Several of Their ‘’Standard Bearers’’ were injured so seriously, that Their blood ‘’sprayed’’ onto The Flag. This was seen as a ‘’mystical sign’’ of Their ‘’Divine Right’’ to Rule. As such, this Banner became revered as one of later Nazi Party Leader (and later still, Chancellor) Adolph Hitler’s most ‘’cherished relics’’. So much so, that no Germany SS Military Unit or Officer was allowed to serve until they had sworn Their ‘’oath of loyalty’’ by ‘’touching’’ the blood stained Banner.

Although ‘’seen’’ by Party Members and Military Officers of Hitler’s SS – The Blutfahne was only displayed for The Populace yearly (in celebration of the founding of The Party). The last time it was seen was in Munich in 1944. After this year, The Flag mysteriously disappeared. Several school’s of thought were advanced as to what really happened to the infamous blood stained Blutfahne. The first, that during the heavy bombing of The City of Munich in 1944-1945, The Banner was destroyed. Others, state that some as yet unidentified American Soldier, after occupying Germany in 1945 – may have picked it up as nothing more than a War Trophy. Still more state that it was ‘’secreted away’’ by ‘’loyal Party Members’’, hiding it until Germany would yet again ‘’embrace’’ National Socialism , and The Blutfahne would again be revered as a sacred Icon.
