England is full of Ancient Beasties and Ghoulies . The legend of The Black Annis fits well into their Panthenon of Monsters Arcanus . The Black Annis story appears around the 9th Century. Said to haunt The Leicestsershire Hills the creature is always described as female. Similar in many respects to The Boogeyman, The Black Annis is a witch-like Crone (with an appetite for small children). She prowls the night looking for small unattended children (or small animals) to devour. The Black Annis them keeps their skins (which she tans) and wears around her waist as a belt. She has been known to try and snatch children from unlocked windows as well. In a real World link, stories tell of 18th Century Annie Bowers (a local witch) accused of stealing local children for Satanic rituals. She was captured and burned at The Stake. Of course, her curse is that she would continue her nightly visits (for ALL Eternity).
