The Besho are harmful Spirits in Bengali Culture, that inhabit Bamboo Gardens or Shoots. The Besho will (as a Shoot), lay on the ground and wait for their victim to step over the supposed ''dead'' plant. Once stepped over, The Besho ''spring up'', driving the sharp end into the flesh of their ''prey'' – killing them. They derive no ''nourishment'' from the ''act'', and do so out of the pure ''pleasure'' of doing it.
