In a variation of "The Breaking Wheel" or "Catherine" Wheel, The ''Battering Wheel'' was a somewhat more direct device with regards to it's intentions - Death! The Wheel wad made of either iron or wood and was around 5-feet in diameter. Spokes reinforced the wheel for support. Extending outwards from the perimeter of the wheel, were dulled Spikes. Tied with arms extending fully extended rearward (as were one's legs), the Victim waited for the final component. A large Mallet was brought down at full force over the abdomen, often driving the dulled Spikes into the flesh. Normally, the Victims entrails "spilled" out from "natural" orifices. The Battering Wheel was seen in use for punishment of Treasonous acts, around the 16th Century in Italy, Spain and even The Middle East.
