Batibat

 From The Philippine Island in The Pacific Ocean comes the story of The Batibat. These are demon-spirits that are blamed for a local island disease similar to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The Batibat (when seen), usually take the form of an old, fat woman. They live among the trees. Choosing a tree home for life, when humans cut down their home  they will seek out the offender who cut down the tree and (if they have children)  kill them and take their spirit (to become another Batibat, it seems). Batibats also feed off of one's bad dreams. If one is having a bad dream  they should try to wiggle their toes (in the dream). This annoys The Batibat, who who go elsewhere for it's nightly meal.
