From The Philippine Islands, is the Legend of The Bakunawa. Said to be an enormous sea serpent, The Bakunawa is so large that it can blot out the Moon, when it raises itself up out of the Sea. It is said that when an eclipse happens it is really The Bakunawa, raising up. Some descriptions of the beast give him small wings (although it cannot fly), and long whiskers. Per the Legend, there were once 7 Moons in the Sky. 2 God Serpents existed. The first, Bathala was tasked with protecting them. His even Cousin - The Bakunawa would wait for him to sleep, then gobble up a Moon. After eating the last Moon, the People of The Philippines (so scared), gathered up all their cooking pots and beat them loudly. This sacred Bakunawa who regurgitated the remaining Moon. Bathala then moved the Moon out of Bakunawa grasp. He still will raise up on certain nights and try to eat it.
