Bake Kujira

Another Japanese Yokai Tale, this particular deals with Nature, and it's ability to revenge itself on Man. According to Legend, The Bake Kujira are the ''Animal Spirits'' of Whales hunted at Sea by Human. Because of the sentient nature of the Mammal, they are said to able to reason and feel pain much as Humans do. Brutally killed for their fat (Oil) and meat often their skeletal remains were simply left to sink to the bottom of The Sea. However, the vengeful Spirit would re-animate the remains resuming it's ''former'' existence as a skeletal ''Wraith''. They now ''hunt'' Human Sailors, luring them into the deep Sea. They can fool Sailors into thinking they are hunting a ''real'' Whale. Once the ''kill'' is made, The Bake Kujira ''disappears''. The Crew is henceforth cursed. Famine, insanity all manner of ailment is visited upon them. The easiest way to ''spot'' a Bake Kujira is that they are followed by ''strange, and unreal looking'' birds and Pilot Fish. Theses are a form of ''Associate Spirit'' to The Bake Kujira.
