The theory of Automatic Writing was born from the wave of Psychic Mediums in the 19th and 20th Centuries. By way of a Medium, a Spirit can communicate via the written word (normally in the language of The Medium). In a trance-like state, The Medium (holding a writing instrument), begins to scrawl letters and words (supposedly from the communicating Spirit). Some definitive examples from the 20th Century, defy skeptical analysis. Known persons with little or no language skills outside their basic education, were found (under trance), to write in languages long ago spoken and describing events not readily known. On the other hand, many such False Mediums used Automatic Writing as a way of creating a money making venture (thus discrediting any real study). Such Scientific work was done at Cornell University (US) in the 1970s, using several bonafide Automatic Writers. Under EEG (Brain Electrical Response Monitoring), such Writers did experience higher than normal cerebral activity.
