Another popular method of execution used by The Persians was Ash Suffocation. A specially built container was constructed (of stone). Filled with ash, the Victim was bound and thrown into the container. Sealed, the victim would slowly “drown” in the ash. Often, devices were used to constantly agitate the ash (in the event the Victim closed his mouth). The result agitation of ash in the enclosed space was often enough to do the trick – eventually. A historical example is even found in The Bible (2 Maccabees, 13:5-8).
