Located on the Northwest corner of the base of Japan's famous Mount Fujiyama, The Aokigahara Forest is known locally as "The Sea of Trees" or "Suicide Forest". The dark place has been since the 19th Century, the location for suicides. Over 30 are committed per year in the dark and foreboding location. Many are eventually found, but many decompose and are found many months and years later - sometimes never! The density of the Forest and surrounding hills are very easy to get lost in. A local habit involves "marking" one's trail with plastic tape (to help one find their way back). Since 1970, Teams combat The Forest once a year to locate bodies. In 2010, 54 were recovered. The most "popular" method is by hanging. As such, many Locals say that "Yurei" or "Angry Spirits" haunt Aokigahara Forest. It is advised that people do NOT camp there at night.
