A Yokai Spirit from Feudal Japanese Folklore – The ‘’Abura Sumashi’’ was said to never have been Human. Portrayed as a small Impish figure, The Sumashi had a head best described as a ‘’potato’’. They wore dried grass clothing and carried a stick. It was further said that all They wanted was oil (the why is unknown or lost to time). Travelers thru the various Mountains in Japan were encouraged to carry with them a small vial of the stuff, in the event they encountered a Sumashi. Failure to give them the oil (or having none to give), would result in them causing the transgressor to become lost – never again to find their home.
