A little known Horror Film from 1974 - ''Abby'' is more known for it's lawsuit brought against it by Warner Brothers Studios, than it being among the first so called ''Blaxplotation'' Horror Films. Dealing with a Historian who accidentally releases an ancient Yoruba Demon - the Spirit makes it's way to New York and into a little Black girl. As one can expect, ''head spinning'', vomiting (milk instead of peas soup this time), and your typical ''demonic activities'' are all featured. Even Black (Baptist of course) Exorcists. The film was a great ''B''-Movie Drive-In fare for the 1970s (and was not shown on TV for some reason). But here comes the cause. While movies about Demonic Possession were set with 1973s ''The Exorcist'' (first) - coming barely a years after that film's release - Executives at Warner Brothers took it's obvious ''Black Version'' to court - citing copywrite infringement. While quite different, Judges felt that it was ''close enough''. Warner's won. As such, all viewings were stopped Worldwide and all Prints of ''Abby'' were found by Warner Brothers and destroyed. Save a few that were hidden or never coming to light. Later injunctions by ''Abby'' Producers reversed the ruling, but copies were still scarce. A 2013 DVD release was made, but many scenes were missing. Perhaps someday, a better budgeted remake (or found perfect copy) will surface. If you can find it, watch it...it's great!
