I can most likely make this castle. But I don't think I'll have the time to work on it within a week, so if I'm not done by the deadline, I'll probably just upload it separately to the download section.

This is an interesting challange, which I would love to take part.

Unfortunately, like Strife, I will not be able to complete the map by the deadline. I will be travelling from tomorrow evening onwards and essentially return on Saturday. So I have this evening and a few hours on Saturday to work on it.

Strife, why don't we go agead and both submit our draft maps as far as we have them by the deadline? Then we can finish them later for uploading to the download section. :)

Sounds like a plan. I doubt I have time to work on it other than tomorrow though, so I'm pretty sure I can just get the castle structure going but that's about it.

Anything is better than nothing - I'll look forward to seeing what you both come up with. A week is a short amount of time, but then again, these are supposed to be unique and challenge you as never before ;)

Good luck to both of you and anyone else who enters.

Well, I wound up only having about three hours to make the map. This was the first time I've ever tried to re-create a real castle. Most of that time was spent finding more detailed pictures of the castle rather than actually building it. Anyway, I won't be able to work on it tonight or tomorrow, so I might as well submit it now.

Hehe, Strife, I experienced the same - lots of time spent on looking for more pictures of this castle.

But it was fun looking up that castle and finding out more about it.

I learned that this was the place in Normandy where William the Conqueror was born. He, the illegitimate son of the Duke of Normandy and the beautiful daughter of a simple tanner, would go on an invade England in 1066 to end the line of Anglo Saxon kings and establish a Norman dynasty.

The map of the castle is only a draft. The walls are there and I have put some farms and buildings in just to show where the viallage could be and the farming area. Knowing the story about William's birth, I could not resist and place a tannery directly into the caslte. I shall leave the rest to your imagination :)

@Strife

There was some impressive landscaping on this map - you thought it out very well, I liked the tower and wall placement, particularly around the keep. It was very impressively placed. I also liked the way the terrain wrapped around the wall on the right and above the castle. I'll also comment and say just how good the shape of the castle is. If this map had been finished, it would probably have 3 points - it really is very good!

@Nigel

This map is fairly good - there could have been more detail, but for the time spent this was a good castle which matches the description well. I particularly liked the few extra buildings you placed outside of the castle, giving the impression of a village nearby. My favourite feature was the terrain around the walls on the visible side, which was lowered. Great job for a quick attempt!

@Floki

This castle it very well detailed. For your first Stronghold 1 map, this is excellent! While it isn't as accurate to the description as the other two are, this is made up for by the amazing tricks, such as the stone bridge and the river on the right of the map. You've done your very best to place marshland, trees and create an atmosphere inside the map - and this showed. Really good work!

Congratulations @Floki, this was a very well deserved win! For a very small amount of time, you've managed to create a very well detailed castle. Thank you everyone for your entries!

Congratulations, Floki.

I look forward to seeing that map :D

And yes, zip is so much more convenient. The Windows Explorer opens it directly without the need for any other program.

I, too, would be glad if you could switch over to that archiving format.

Congratulations, Floki. That's quite a map for only spending a day on it.

Usually with older computer systems, like XP, we had to download something like WinRAR to open most compressed files. WinRAR can be used to unlock .zip files, but our current Windows Explorer, or WinZIP in general, can't be used to unlock .rar files.?

      Years ago, with some realism, I have imagined and documented Sarum Castle — a formidable fortress along the North Norfolk Coast in England during the early 1400s fully sustained by its household and town. Key features which you can consider for your own castle: Concentric design: Two defensive layers around the keep, with moats, drawbridges and barbicans. Defensive tricks: Trebuchets, mangonels, ballistas, rolling logs, oil and stone tippers along different hidden traps and k
