Sometimes referred to as a “Torse”, a Wreath of plant material was twisted into a solid piece. This would then be placed over the leather straps of The Crest (which was attached to a Knights Helm). This style of “concealment”, would adopted into Heraldry imagery. The inclusion of The Wreath to the Helm on a Shield conveyed a Tournament “participant”. The use of The Wreath is also seen as a way to “highlight” (or surmount) – an Achievement or Charge (deserving of “special recognition”).
