The ''Lexington'' was a Brigantine-Class Warship, purchased by the young American Navy in 1776. She took several ''Prizes'' in Her short career until captured by The Royal Navy in 1777. Her name ''Lexington'' (in honor of The Battle of Lexington in 1775) – would be passed on to several American Warships throughout History. ''Lexington's'' Flag (not an Ensign at this point), was based on The British Union Jack Flag. It featured an Upper Left Canton which bore The Jack (pre-''Articles of Union, 1801'' Version). The remainder of The Flag consisted of a collection of Red, White and Blue horizontal Stripes. These were (5) Red, (4) White and (4) Blue.
