Created in 1964, The US Air Force Combat readiness Medal is awarded for ''Superior and Meritorious Service'' – originally for preparedness for Combat duty. In 1967, actual Combat Missions were made inclusive. In addition to Active Duty Personnel, The Combat Readiness Medal is also award to Reserve and Air National Guard Components. It can be awarded by A Headquarters Unit or Command in lieu of The actual Department of The Air Force. Both Officers and Enlisted are eligible. The Device is Gold in color and is engraved with (2) inverted Triangles (clear of imagery). A modified ''Sunburst'' (Disc) radiates from the perimeter. The Ribbon itself is a Maroon Red color, flanked by White and Blue Stripes.
