A short lived weapon, The Savage Arms Company created the .44 caliber Heavy Revolver. As most weapons (revolvers and pistols) were single-action, The Savage was designed with a unique Dual-trigger. Upon pulling back the hammer and firing a round, the “secondary” trigger could be employed to “self-cock”. Unfortunately, this action required both fingers and was time consuming. Effective up to 500 yards, The Savage saw short service with The North (Navy) - (and a bit longer in The South) – during The American Civil War.
