Created by Presidential Proclamation in 2003, The US Armed Forces Global War on Terrorism Medal, is awarded to any US Military Service Member (regardless of Branch), who has participated in The Global War on Terrorism, dating from 2001 forward. Direct combat is not required with the primary criteria being 30-days of Service or Training in The US Armed Forces during the stated Period. The Medal is similar to The National Defense Service Medal (commonly given to all US Servicemen if serving in time of War or National Emergency). A Circular Device, The Front of The Medal bears a Federal Eagle superimposed over The Earth. Engraved around these images is the words ''GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM''. The Ribbon is a Blue Field with Gold, Red and White Striping.
