In reality, The Trench Crossbow was designed by The French for use in Trench Warfare. Designed to throw Hand Grenades, it was actually deployed to “fire” Crossbow bolt. A “throwback” weapon from The Middle Ages, it could be used (mush in the same way as the Ancient weapon). Side hand-cranks would activate a series of high tension spring (rotating around a pinon). When locked, a Canister Grenade could be launched around 125-150 yards – into an enemy trench. It was soon found that the Ancient crossbow “bolt” (a sharpened metal rod) could be fired (with little sound). It served at a dual purpose weapon. The bolt was able of penetrating an enemy helmet. Made of metal, The Trench Crossbow weighed around 30 pounds.
