Also known as "Mehmed The Conqueror", this 14th/15th Century Ottoman Sultan was considered a warrior-hero among his people. His armies and wars brought about the end of The Byzantine Empire with the taking of Constantinople in 1453. He conquered large tracts of territories in Southeast Europe. His "known" battle blade is of the Kilji design (33 to 40 inches long). Of note, the blood groove (running down both sides of the blade) is very ornate and engraved with gold plating. It is single-edged. The scabbard had long since been lost. His sword is currently on display at The Topkapi Museum in Istanbul, Turkey.
