The Sword of King Otto IV

This Ceremonial Sword was made in 1198 for German King Otto IV, upon his enthronement as King of The Germans (and prior to his installment as Holy Roman Emperor). He was the only member of The Welf Dynasty. This blade was made in Italy under commission of The Pope. It is a 3.5 to 4 foot double-edged sword. It has a gold plated scabbard with fine filigree). King Otto, having been involved in a feud with The Pope in 1210 - ended up getting excommunicated. This blade is currently in display at The Lutheran Church of Brauschweig, Germany.
