Queen Elizabeth I reigned as Sovereign of England from 1558 until Her death in 1603. As with most English Monarchs for Centuries – She had Her own Personal Standard. These flags, as We have seen – were used to ''announce'' a Monarch's presence in Court or Residence. Elizabeth's Standard reflected Her past lineage with The House of Tudor. The Field was Quartered. The Upper Left and Lower Right bore the images of (3) Fleur-de-Lys (in Gold on a Blue background). This was Her relation to The Throne of France (as established by Henry V in the 14th Century). The Lower Left and Upper Right Quadrants bore the Red Field with the (3) Gold Lions used by English Royalty since the 11th Century.
