Ancient in origin, The Egyptian Sphinx has the Head of a Human and the Body of a Lion. Greek and Egyptian portrayals were different (with The Middle Ages variant even more different). Some version portray The Sphinx with wings. Popular in the 14th Century, they were seen in Coats of Arms for returning Crusader Knights. Coloring was mostly natural in portrayal.
