Used to identify the one-time Capitol of the “New” United States in Annapolis, Maryland – The flag was commissioned by The Governor of Maryland. Designed by John Shaw, the Flag flew from 1783-84, they were somewhat longer than a traditional set of later “National Colors”. They incorporated a full Canton (Blue) that took up the entirety of the left portion of the Field (upper and lower Left). A series of 13- Red and White Stripes were added. The flag was used one final time in 1786 when a Federal Convention met in Annapolis for drafting of The Articles of Confederation.
