A popular type of heavy Broadsword Blade, The Schiavona was developed in Italy around the 16th Century. Similar to the Scottish Broadsword, these blades were popular with both Cavalry and Mercenary Units in the Region. Noted for it's distinctive “leaf shaped” Basket Hilt and “Cat's Head” Pommel, The Schiavona was roughly 45-inches in length and weighed 4 pounds. They were double-edged and noted as a cleaving (not stabbing) weapon. During peacetime, these blades were also popular with Nobility as a personal weapon.
