Often confused with the “Super Gun” “Mons Meg” (Edinburgh Castle), “Roaring Meg” saw service in The English Civil War. A Cast Iron Mortar, she featured a 15.5-inch diameter barrel. Considered the “largest Mortar fielded in The War”, “Roaring Meg” was capable of firing a 200-Pound Hollow Shot shell (filled with a secondary charge and fuse). “Meg” was said to have a 1,000 yard effective range. The last time “Meg” fired was some 19 Balls in 1646, during the Bombardment of Raglan Castle. “Roaring Meg” is currently displayed at Goodrich Castle.
