Quite simply, the “Modern” color – Purple. These colors (when used on Coats of Arms and Ceremonial Shields), were reserved only for Kings and Queens. A Royal Prince (one who could inherit) could also use “Purpure” - but a Princess could not! The color was also deeply associated with Christ in The Middle Ages, and was used to show the “Royal Connection” between a Sovereign and God.
