Seen in the Middle Ages, the Poignard was a long (12 to 15 inch) personal dagger weapon. Often seen as a symbol of Knighthood in some regions, the weapon enjoyed some popularity in France and Italy. Often double edged, the Special Operations Fairbarin-Sykes Fighting Knife of today is considered  direct ancestor.
