Master of The Ship, The Captain was known more for his ability to take Prizes that his Leadership (although that – through fear was important as well). Crews would often hire on with successful Captains with a record of taking prizes. Many Captains had served in regular Navies and had 10 years of service. Many Captains were amicable towards their Crews. This was due to the fact that crews often mutinied against their Captains (and killed or marooned them). Captains were responsible for the adequate distribution of all profits and well as enacting “The Code” for the ship. The Captain was the final word in ALL decisions.
