The Pinsel was a Scottish flag, used to identify a 13th Century Clan Chief. As his “Personal Color”, he would able to bee seen in battle. It was also displayed when he was inside a structure. Triangular in shape, a standard Pinsel measured 2.5 feet long and 4.5 feet high. It was normally displayed on a pole. 15th Scottish Barons attempted to use a style of Pinsel to identify themselves. This practice was not discouraged.
