Operation ''Hardtack'' was a series of Nuclear weapons Tests held over a wide range of Pacific Islands (uninhabited), which took place in 1958. A total of (35) Tests made ''Hardtack'' the most device tested to that date. Over 19,000 Federal Employee participated between The USAF and Department of Defense (DOD).
The goals of the testing involved monitoring detection of Nuclear detonations at high-altitudes (via airdrop), effects of detonations on underwater surface and radiation and direction of radiation clouds.
The Tests were also more publicized than other previous Tests.
The average yield was slightly over 9-MT per device. The result of the massive amount of Testing prompted The USSR to initiate Atomic Testing Moratoriums with The UN.
