Designed in 1886 in Norway, The Krag-Jorgensen Rifle became a popular weapon for many Military Services throughout the World. The Krag was also one of the last “foreign imports” contracted by The US Military. Innovative for it's use of a top “Drop Box” magazine, it was also bolt action operated. The Magazine opening afforded for several cartridges to be dropped in (even in haste), without worry of jamming or misfire. Weighing slightly over 11-pounds, it utilized the .30-40 Krag Cartridge (similar to a .30 Caliber round by US standards). It had a maximum effective range of 3,000 feet (with minimum range of 900 feet). Issued with a 5-round metal magazine, The Krag was the standard issue weapon for US Troops during The Spanish-American War (1896-98).
