The term ''Miquelet'' is an oft confusing descriptive which is applied to a Class of Fighting Force which was in short - Mercenary. These ''Companies'' or ''Armies'' (common to Spain and Portugal) were available to those wealthy enough to hire Them. They were fond of the use of Matchlock or early Flintlock weapons (particularly Braces of Pistols). When deployed in such 18th Century Engagements as The Spanish War of Succession (and others), Miquelets were used as ''Shock Troops''. The Force were also noted Mountain Fighters. The Miquelets were also known to turn to Brigandry (Land Pirates), when They were not ''gainfully employed''. Their usage and The Term ''Miquelet'' did not last past the early 19th Century
