Although Mexico imported much of it's weapons from France, it did attempt to make it's own. The Model 1830 Heavy Cavalry Sword was one such. Heavy at 6-Pounds, it was unusually “short” at 32-inches. It was also a true double-edged weapon. Used primarily as a hacking weapon, and was seen in use at The Alamo. Unlike most Cavalry “Swords”, the weapon was straight (not curved). This was the last of the “straight blades” used by The Mexican Cavalry (replaced with the more “refined”, French 1855 Saber).
